Perry has the father of actor Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as as seen through flashback) Her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. She did not pursue acting as a career until she reached the age of adulthood due to her parents being worried about the detrimental consequences stress can have. Perry was shy in high-school and didn't act. Her first acting experience was at Northwestern University to gain friends when she moved from Boston University. Perry went on to New York, where she landed small roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Homesickness then caused Perry her back home California and theater roles were readily available. She and her mother starred on Broadway together in The Other Place, in 2013. Perry was in the show with the father of her character Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 at The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry played nine roles in the ABC drama The Family, in 2016. In 2017, Perry had a minor role on ABC's thriller about politics Scandal in which her father was the main character. That same year she appeared as a younger character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother in a younger version. The role was given an audition to the actress, even though she is a relative to the character.
